தற்போது பத்திரிகைத் துறைக்கு ஏற்பட்டுள்ள நெருக்கடிகளை விவரித்து,பிரபல பத்திரிகைகளின் உரிமையாளர்கள் வைகோவை சந்தித்து பேசினர்..!

இன்று பகல் 12 மணி அளவில், பத்திரிகை உரிமையாளர்கள் திரு ‘இந்து’ சார்பில் ராம் அவர்கள், ‘தினமலர்’ சார்பில் திரு ஆதிமூலம் அவர்கள், ‘தினகரன்’ சார்பில் திரு ஆர்.எம்.ஆர்.ரமேஷ் அவர்கள் சென்னை அண்ணாநகர் இல்லத்தில் என்னை நேரில் சந்தித்து, தற்போது பத்திரிகைத் துறைக்கு ஏற்பட்டுள்ள நெருக்கடிகளை விவரித்து, இந்து பத்திரிகையின் சார்பில்  என்.ராம், தினத்தந்தி உரிமையாளர் பாலசுப்பிரமணியன் ஆதித்தன், தினமலர் சார்பில் ஆதிமூலம், தி நியூ இன்டியன் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் குழுமத்தின் சார்பில்  மனோஜ்குமார் சந்தாலியா, தினகரன் நிர்வாக இயக்குநர் ஆர்.எம்.ஆர்.ரமேஷ் கையொப்பமிட்ட கடிதத்தைக் கொடுத்தார்கள்.

பத்திரிகைத் துறையில் தற்போது ஏற்பட்டுள்ள நெருக்கடிகளை விளக்கினார்கள். அதன் அடிப்படையில் கோரிக்கைகள்:

1) அச்சுக் காகிதங்கள் மீதான சுங்க வரியை நீக்க வேண்டும்.

2) நாளிதழ்களுக்கு அரசுகளிடமிருந்து வரவேண்டிய விளம்பரக் கட்டண பாக்கிகளை உடனுக்குடன் கொடுக்க உத்தரவிட வேண்டும்.

3) அரசு விளம்பரங்களுக்கான கட்டணத்தை 100 சதவீதம் உயர்த்தி வழங்க வேண்டும்.

என்ற கோரிக்கைகளை வலியுறுத்தி தலைமை அமைச்சர் மாண்புமிகு நரேந்திர மோடி அவர்களுக்கு கடிதம் எழுதி, பரிந்துரை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள்.

உங்கள் கோரிக்கைகள் முழுக்க முழுக்க நியாயமானவை. இதற்காக பிரதமர் மாண்புமிகு  நரேந்திர மோடி அவர்களுக்கு பரிந்துரை செய்து கடிதம் அனுப்புகிறேன் என்று உறுதி அளித்தேன்.

அத்துடன் இந்தக் கோரிக்கைகளை வலியுறுத்தி உடனடியாக பிரதமருக்கு ஒரு கடிதத்தை மின்னஞ்சல் மூலமாக அனுப்பி வைத்தேன்.

Sub: Urgent Relief Measures to the Newspaper Industry-Reg.

I, the Member of Parliament from Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam -MDMK would like to bring to your kind notice about the challenges faced by the Newspaper Industry in these unprecedented times. We are all sure of the fact that newspapers are the fourth pillar of our great democratic Country. The current situation has pushed them into question of survival and existence.

We can see it more clearly that many newspapers have already cut down pages, closing editions to keep them going as they have an ethical commitment to the society.

We have also been given to understand that this industry gives more than 30 lakhs people jobs and these people are the ones who enlighten our society at large.

The disastrous effects of COVID-19 have brought down the advertising revenues (which is most essential for the running of the newspaper) to almost nil and this is expected to continue for a longer period of time until the new normal is established and set rolling. Logistical issues have also reduced the circulation, medium or large.

The newspaper body has already proposed the following relief requests and we wish to present them to you again in their support.

* Waiver of customs duty on newsprint * Clearance of the Outstanding BOC dues * Increase rates by 100% for BOC advertisement * Increase use of print medium for Govt. announcements * Complete tax holiday for the next 2 fiscal periods

We are very certain that, you shall take every necessary step in the due course to provide relief.
